InterMAT - Transnational Cluster for Materials and Processes
Luxembourg and its neighbouring regions of Lorraine/Champagne-Ardennes and Wallonia all benefit from a high concentration of renowned companies and research organisations active in the field of Material Technologies and Processes.
In order to reinforce competitive advantage and to foster the transnational transfer of technological and scientific know-how, the Luxembourg Materials Cluster works closely with the two neighbouring Clusters Materalia
in Lorraine/Champagne-Ardennes and Mecatech
in Wallonia to create the transnational InterMAT Cluster
.
The transnational InterMAT Cluster
exits to:
- Establish a critical mass of companies and research organisations working in the same thematic area in order to pool competences and resources
- Identify new inter-regional partners for collaborative innovation projects and business opportunities
- Develop and implement new transnational projects
- Facilitate access to regional, national and European funding opportunities
- Increase the visibility of the technological and scientific excellence of the “triangle of regions” composed of Luxembourg, Lorraine/Champagne-Ardennes and Wallonia

The TIGRE project: "Technology transfer and Innovation in the Greater Region"
The TIGRE project
, which is an acronym for "Technology transfer and Innovation in the Greater Region", is an Interreg IVA project launched in 2009. It involves 8 partners, 2 of whom are located in Luxembourg (Luxinnovation and the Technology Watch Centre of the Public Research Centre Henri Tudor), under the coordination of the "Interface Entreprise-Université" of the University of Liège (Belgium).
The project's main objective is to mobilise the scientific and technological potential of the higher education institutes of the Greater Region for the benefit of innovation and regional development through closer cooperation between interface and valorisation services.
TIGRE primarily aims to bridge the gap between the technology offers produced by public research laboratories ("technology push") and the demand for new technologies among small, medium-sized and large businesses ("market pull") in the Greater Region. The project is aimed at researchers, business creators and enterprises in the Greater Region.
International fairs and brokerage events
Increasing the international visibility of competencies and capabilities available in Luxembourg as well as fostering international collaboration are key objectives of the Luxembourg Materials Cluster. Therefore in order to promote the know-how of its members and to stay updated on the Materials strategies of Europe’s main actors, the Cluster participates in a number of important events on behalf of its members.
In addition, in the case of brokerage events, Cluster members are invited to attend matchmaking activities to initiate potential research or technological cooperation. Public-private partnerships are particularly encouraged with a series of financial incentive schemes at national or international level.
Among the notable events that took place in 2011, the following can be highlighted:
